Central Texas started the year off with a chill. Monday morning, January 1st, the temperature was a chilly 19 degrees with a wind chill factor of 1 degree. Texans across the area bundled up for a cozy day of parade and football watching. Recovering from a night of revelry from the night before.
Except for a select few.
The City of Temple Parks and Recreation held their annual Polar Bear Plunge at Lions Junction Family Water Park. In the chilly air, a few brave souls came out to kick 2018 off with a frigidly cold dip in the pool. There was a costume contest, a bellyflop contest, and then the procession of crazy people taking their turn at the icy plunge.
CenTexFun wasn't just on the scene for this one. They were part of the scene. Steve Peters participated in the belly flop competition donning, and then stripping off his Santa suit. His brother, Brent Peters, brought out the Daisy Duke shorts, mostly to embarrass his daughter.
Jumping in the water wasn't the hard part. It was the aftermath of leaving the water. In all, over 50 people registered to take the jump. Most of them registering when it was a balmy 60 degrees outside. Expecting a 19 degree day was unexpected by most that showed up. But to their credit, they all met 2018 with bravery and a bit of crazy.
