The Cultural Activities Center presents another installment of their Texas Music Series with the always popular Shinyribs. Enjoy this great show in the air conditioned comfort of the CAC.
Shinyribs is the continuation of the Gourds with Kevin Russell. This concert will be an exaltation of spirit, with hip shaking, belly laughing and soul-singing, a down right party for all show goers. A veteran Austin-based musician and co-founder of The Gourds, known for hit song “Gin and Juice” Kevin began to focus on his own performances as Shinyribs with brother-in-law, drummer Keith Langford in 2013. Shinyribs performances throw crowd-pleasing curves by mixing up the style when covering "Waterfalls" by TLC and Hendrix's "The Wind Cried Mary" with a lone ukulele; making each Shinyribs’ concert a unique treat for fans. As a singer/songwriter, and guitarists, Russell is the full package according to fans, when he’s entertaining onstage.
The road to ‘ribs began for Kevin Russell at the age of 15, when his father’s job took their family to Shreveport Louisiana. Russell, under many “musical influences” started a band after high school called the Picket Line Coyotes, after playing nearly everywhere in a 55 mile radius of Louisiana, the group started to make their debuts in Austin, and emerge on the music scene for Texas. Once gaining roots in Austin and popularity on the music scene, Russell kick started his career as first as the group called “the Gourds”, and now continuing on “solo” as Shinyribs.
