“Cake makes life better. Cake makes people smile.” Lily tells me with a giant smile. After taking a Hobby Lobby cake decorating class, Lily Halabi started her business from her home 6 years ago and has grown to be the local “Cake Queen” with a reputation that had put her on the national TV show Cake Wars not only once, but twice.
Now, I have to admit in honesty, after growing up in the hot south, I am naturally much more of an ice cream lover than a cake lover. I like cake, of course, but given a choice between the two and only being able to pick one, I almost always choose ice cream. That being said, I have to talk about the love of my cake life the always-refreshing Lemon crème.
Lily’s Lemon Crème is quite possibly my favorite cupcake flavor of all time, it is one of those flavors you can enjoy on a sweltering hot Texas day and feel entirely refreshed afterwards. The natural lemony taste is crisp, the cupcake moist and fluffy at the same time. The wave of flavor coasting over your taste buds is cool and delightful. Perfect for summer days paired with a crisp tea. It’s the kind of cupcake that will keep you cool on one of these hot 105 degree summer days.
Lily’s Cakes original location is conveniently located right off the highway in Harker Heights near Walmart, Arepitas, and Acropolis. You can see it easily from I-14. Her new second location is now open across from Baylor Scott & White in Temple on S. 31st St. They’re well connected and accessible to their customers, taking orders on either their Facebook page or through their website. However, I recommend stopping by and visiting with the ladies, smelling that sweet smell and being overcome with delicious, irresistible, cupcakes to brighten your day.
