If I got to write a poem for back-to-school shopping it would start like:
T’was the month before school and all through the state,
teachers and parents were shopping so as not to be late.
The stores were all full of backpacks and glue,
The children were begging for everything to be shiny and new.
Well, that’s how it feels for me anyway! That wonderful moment when the kids get to load up their school bags, pack a lunch, and leave mom with a few precious hours of peace and quiet is nearly here. Back in Montana I would have known exactly what shops had everything I wanted while deftly avoiding the masses at Walmart. Having not shopped here for back to school before I have been reviewing the multitude of options and come across my picks for must try stops.
The first category is clothes. This I have shopped for multiple times in the area since my children seem to think getting big is ok (stepping out for a mommy cry). For moms like me we want to find cute things that will be out grown before being worn out. If you are looking for some truly cute boutique outfits that will set your kids apart in the classroom at school there are a couple of great local shops. Shar’s in Temple is one of my favorite stops. They have cute outfits for the kids, and mom at mostly great prices. Callie’s Boutique in Temple has oodles of cute things for the littles as well. When you are being more thrifty, check out the area sales that are coming up over the next couple of months. The two big ones are Just Between Friends and Just as Nice Consignment Sale. Nicole from Just BetweenFriends has included a free pass specially for our readers here on CenTexFun! By the way, these last two are great ways to clear out all the outgrown clutter too! If you don’t want to wait for them, check out Smarty Pants, they are a great shop with ever changing inventory.
Next, is the school list of supplies. Let me just comment here how amazing it is that each district has the same supplies for each school. This is the first time in my life anything has been this organized and easy! Often I find that jumping between stores for different items can save you money when looking for sales, if you can avoid buying extra things at each stop. There is a store down in Austin that has some great deals, if they have what you need. Austin Creative Reuse could be the best thing, ever(please note I am a crafter, opinions may vary). For those that are looking for an easy in and out for the school supplies, Perry Office Plus offers a complete kit for each school district by grade. You can get each kid done for around $40 depending on grade.
Once you haul everyone home and sort out all the pencils and markers into each backpack give yourself a moment. Absorb all the amazing things this school year will bring, and how they have grown since last year. Then call up your mom friends and schedule a first day breakfast. You won’t be the only one with tears still in her eyes from dropping littles off for school.
